The Balfour Declaration 1917
The Balfour Declaration was an agreement by the English that was made to set up a Jewish home land in the Palestine.
- The British mandate remained under British control
- Confusingly, the British had also promised the Arabs independence in the region
- In 1918 there were 60,000 jews and in 1939 there were 630,000
- This was the beginning of the Arab- Israeli conflict
