Martin Luther King was the leader of the black protest movement and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967
- He becomes prominent after organizing the bus boycott over the jailing of Rosa Parks
- King advocated peaceful demonstrations
- Blacks new their cause would gain sympathy when they were shown being beaten by police on tv
- His most famous speech is "I have a dream" which he made at the Washington Mall in 1963.
- Won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967
- Assassinated in 1968
