- Revolt in Soweto and other townships resulted in up to 575 deaths
- Youth leader Steve Biko beaten to death
- Youth became very active in the ANC after this
- “Total Strategy” was devoloped where they sabotaged SA cities
- Civil disobedience, strikes, boycotts and even more violent measures continued and increased
Summary.
The Soweto Massacre took place in 1976 when a number of blacks began a revolt against the mandatory education in Afrikans. It was said that the Afrikans education made very little sense because of its difficulty in translation. Police action resulted in 576 deaths and a large demonstration of police brutality. Following the massacre many youths became involved with the ANC and a revolution against Apartheid followed.
