In 1947 the British decide to end their occupation of India making a plan to split India in two leaving India for the Sikhs and Hindus and Pakistan for the Muslim people. Jinnah became the leader of Pakistan and Nehru became the first Prime Minister of India. Due to religious affiliation up to 30 million people had to relocate. In the mass movement there were deaths up to 500,000 people.
