Equal Pay
After women were given the right to vote, the issue of equal pay became very prominent.
- After and during the Second World War there was an influx of female workers that did not want to stop working
- After the war, they did not return to their previous traditional role
- In the 1980's women who worked full time still only made a meager 64% of what men that worked full time made
- "The pink collar syndrome" was part of the problem. This means that the issue was what kind of jobs women usually took in the workforce (secretaries etc)
- A shocking 47% of single mothers in American live under the poverty line
- It is believed by many that things will not change until more women take roles of power in politics.
