Little Rock
Little Rock is an example of the separation between state and federal rights concerning the integration in blacks into previously all white high schools.
- In 1957 black high schoolers attempted to go to Little Rock high school (integration policy)
- The governor of Arkansas (Orval Faubus) stopped this from happening by using the national guard
- The Mayor of the city (Woodrow Mann) called upon President Eisenhower to bring in federal troops.
- Troops were eventually used from the101st airborne to protect the children from going to school.
- This was a victory for the blacks; however, it angered the whites in the area.
